In the Storm with Jesus

In this life, challenges, adversaries, trials and temptations are bound to happen. A normal life has its own share of hurricanes and thunderstorms, and enough bouts of calm situations to sooth the heart. The presence of storms in life does not denote Jesus in absentia.

Mark 4:37 "But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water"

When the fierce storm came, their fishing boat was tossed and swapped by the waters. They shook with fear,  but JESUS was still on board. The scriptures does not tell whether they woke Jesus immediately. Or they tried to ride on through the storm. But at the right time, which was beyond the human strength, Jesus woke up and calmed the fierce storm.

Just because Jesus is on board, it does not mean we will not face the storms of life.

Sometimes when we are faced with fierce storms, we try to bail ourselves out. Many are the times we tend to ride on using all means of human effort. In between we loose some hope. We keep on wondering whether God is 'seeing this'. Is he really concerned.

Despite the fear that engulf us in the storm, God is still in the peddle of our life boat.

When Jesus woke up, he calmed the storm and the disciples were able to acknowledge his power over nature.

When we accepted Jesus and followed him we are not promised an easy and smooth life. Yes, storms will come. When they come we find ourselves asking where Jesus is. 'Where is Jesus when an ardent believer is diagnosed with a terminal disease? Where is Jesus when a pastor is pronounced to have cancer? Where is Jesus when a loved one dies abruptly? Where is Jesus? Where is Jesus?

A story is told of a man who lost his only child in a tragic road accident. He was driving his son as they were coming from a open air meeting in a remote place. The death of his only son made the servant of God to loose hope. And he found himself asking God, "Where were you when my son died."

God answered him in audible voice, "I was where i was when my only begotten son died on the cross for you." This answer soothed the servant of God and he found it in his heart to trust God even more.

The Psalmist asks, "what shall the righteous do when the earths foundations will be shaken." It's only God, who formed those foundations will hold them together.
